I'm Andy Cahill (柯老師), a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and public school Mandarin Chinese teacher with over 10 years of classroom experience. I studied in Taipei, Beijing, and Shanghai, and I've dedicated my career to making Mandarin accessible to English speakers.
Because I learned Mandarin as an adult, not as a native speaker, I understand exactly where English speakers struggle. The tones, the characters, the grammar that doesn't map to anything you know. I've been through it all, and I've built a teaching method around getting past those hurdles faster.
My students have passed the NJ Seal of Biliteracy, connected with their heritage, and gained confidence they never expected. I use storytelling, cultural deep dives, and interactive conversation to bring Mandarin to life.
